Training frontline workers playbook:
Natra success story
Natra success story
Discover how the giant cocoa product-producer, Natra, delivers effective training in a high-paced production environment.

"Now we get more results from our training. People understand our content better because it’s tailored to their needs and only provides what they need to know. They recognize it because it’s the language of Natra. They pick it up faster than generic training."

THE CHALLENGE
Natra, a leading international producer of cocoa-based products, employs over 1,000 people across 6 production sites in Spain, Belgium, France, and Canada, supplying products to more than 90 countries worldwide. To ensure safe, high-quality operations, continuous training is essential - but for a fast-paced production environment, training must be both impactful and time-efficient.
As Training Officer in the Melle office, Kim Lockefeer explained:
“We needed to get people to complete as many trainings as possible without disrupting production.”
Yet delivering effective training to a diverse workforce - ranging from white-collar staff to blue-collar workers with limited access to devices and varying levels of language proficiency - was anything but simple.
Key issues included:
⚡️ Traditional classroom training required too much time away from the production line and was difficult to maintain consistently.
⚡️ Employees had limited access to devices and varied language skills, making it even more challenging to ensure everyone received the same high-quality training.
⚡️ Existing digital training modules were rigid and uninspiring - often just text-based slides, offering little interaction and no connection to the daily reality on the production floor.
Kim and her team at Natra needed a smarter way to deliver more training, in less time, with fewer production stops.
THE VISION
The team at Natra aimed to modernize and streamline their training approach to meet the demands of a fast-moving production environment. With the pressure to deliver more training while reducing classroom time and avoiding unnecessary production stops, they looked for a flexible solution that could adapt to the realities of a shift-based workforce. By moving towards a digital-first strategy, they could provide continuous, efficient learning without pulling people off the line. Ultimately, the goal is to foster a strong learning culture across the organization.
THE SOLUTION
To maintain high safety standards without slowing down production, Natra needed away to train its blue-collar workforce more effectively, despite language barriers and limited digital skills.
They turned to FLOWSPARKS to make that happen:
⚡️ They use the FLOWSPARKS Authoring Tool to create effective, digital training tailored to their factory floor.
⚡️ They distribute training seamlessly to blue-collar workers using the FLOWSPARKS LMS as a flexible addition to their main LMS system.
⚡️ They ensure instant access for employees without email addresses through FLOWSPARKS FastPass.
1. Use visual-first content to overcome language barriers
Natra’s workforce is diverse and multilingual, and traditional training wasn’t landing. That’s why the team adopted a visual-first approach using FLOWSPARKS Authoring Tool’s didactic templates, such as ONTHESPOT.
By building training with real-life images from their own production floor, employees instantly recognize the context. The training becomes more than just content; it reflects their actual workplace.
“Our training wasn’t working as it should,” says Kim Lockefeer. “Now we get more results. People understand the content better because it’s tailored to their needs and only provides what they need to know. They recognize it because it’s the language of Natra. They pick it up faster than generic training.”
The modules invite employees to respond, choose, and reflect, reinforcing what they’ve learned and ensuring they walk away with practical knowledge.
“To me personally, using FLOWSPARKS Authoring Tool is quite a big part of my job and it’s the part of my job I enjoy the most. I really enjoy making the e-Learnings and creating something that really makes a change on the floor,” says Kim Lockefeer.
On top, with the instant update feature, training can be refreshed immediately on the LMS:
“If a new safety issue arises, you can quickly update the e-Learning so everyone sees the latest information,” Kim adds.
This visual, interactive approach leads to better understanding, better decisions, and safer behavior on the factory floor.
2. Create tailored microlearning to fit shift schedules
Training can’t slow down production. That’s why Natra builds short, focused learning moments.
These bite-sized modules fit naturally into shift-based schedules, ideal for just-in-time training on specific procedures, safety topics, or new tasks. Workers can complete modules during short breaks, without needing to leave the production line.
This keeps operations running smoothly while ensuring critical training is delivered exactly when and where it’s needed.
3. Enable access to training for non-digital and non-desk employees
Many factory workers at Natra lack email addresses and are unfamiliar with digital systems. Logging in with usernames and passwords was complicated and often led to frustration.
FLOWSPARKS FastPass removed that barrier: workers now log in by simply scanning their badge - no email, no password required.
“The badge took care of that. It’s much easier now,” says Kim.
For those who are still unfamiliar with digital tools, team leaders and supervisors provide hands-on guidance to ensure everyone can access and complete their training confidently.
At the same time, the FLOWSPARKS LMS keeps training content organized and accessible across teams.
4. Streamlining safety training planning and tracking
Every year, the safety officer defines the topics that need to be covered, and Kim Lockefeer and colleagues creates the training to match. FLOWSPARKS LMS makes it easy to manage the full cycle: planning, delivery, and follow-up.
Employees have a clear deadline to complete each module. Supervisors track progress using the trainer widget, which shows real-time completion status across teams.
“Supervisors no longer have to ask, ‘Who stillneeds to do that?’ because the trainer widget shows everything at a glance.” Kim explains.
The result: training is on time, on point, and on everyone’s radar, without wasting hours on manual follow-up.
THE IMPACT
By streamlining training with visual, personalized content and easy access, Natra reduced confusion and improved understanding among blue-collar workers. Kim Lockefeer notes,
“People understand better because it’s tailor-made and only says what they need to know.”
Thanks to microlearning that fits shift schedules and FastPass login, workers complete training without disrupting production. Supervisors now track progress easily, keeping everyone on schedule without extra follow-up.
