Training the first impression with learning ONTHESPOT

  • Reading time: 2 minutes

How does your employee react to a certain practical situation? Test it with ONTHESPOT and let the participant quickly assess situations. With the Learning Format ONTHESPOT, participants are activated to put theory into practice. Thus, they not only learn to judge on the spot during the e-Learning but also train their reflex on the job.

How does training on the spot work?

ONTHESPOT learning starts with a short introduction. Then various practical situations are presented. In each situation the same question is asked, for example: Is this desirable? Is this safe? Or have the guidelines been applied correctly? You can choose to give the participant all the time they need or you can set a time limit. A feedback moment follows each question. When the exercise is finished, an overview of all desired and undesired practical situations follows.

Training the first impression: in what situations can it be used?

Training the first impression with ONTHESPOT is especially a good way to bring about changes in skills and behavior. Think of teaching certain rules, procedures and values.

Example 1: Is this situation safe?

Safety in the workplace is important for the employee himself, for his colleagues and for the organization. When safety is a daily recurring topic for your organization, you also know that it is important to keep hammering away at it. What, for example, are the do’s and don’ts for working at height? And are you allowed to eat and drink while operating a machine? By presenting these kinds of practical situations, you create a safety culture in which employees know how to act and can help each other to work more safely.

Example 2: Is this allowed according to the Code of Conduct?

What do the rules in your company say about accepting business gifts, for example? Your employees probably received information about this when they started working, but after a while are they still completely clear about what is a desirable reaction in certain situations? Practice these kinds of practical situations with ONTHESPOT.

Example 3: Is this a responsible way to sell products?

Lottery tickets are sold at various points of sale and there are certain rules of conduct involved here. Is the buyer of the right age? And what do you do when someone comes to buy lottery tickets many times? Because the sellers are in contact with the players, they must recognize these situations. By training the sellers with ONTHESPOT, they are ready to sell lottery tickets in a conscious and responsible way.

Getting started

You don’t need much to make an ONTHESPOT learning yourself. The didactic template is all set, you just need to fill it with images and your own expertise.

  • Determine the topic. What do you want to teach the employees? Once you have determined the topic, formulate a question that applies to each situation. Consider: Is this a feature of the product? Is this safe? Or is this allowed?
  • Think of two answer options that fit each practical situation. Examples: Yes or no, safe or unsafe, responsible or irresponsible.
  • Select pictures or graphics that match the practice situations.
  • Collect feedback for the correct and incorrect answer for each practice situation.
  • Write a summary for the end of the exercise with key learning points
