4 Examples on How to Improve Safety Training and Processes

Many organizations have to deal with security measures at different terrains and locations. Not only for their own employees, but also for external parties, visitors or contractors. A good way to make everyone aware of the applicable measures is a (short) safety training course. But how do you do this? Continue reading for examples and get new ideas.

Example 1: fast access to a location for outsiders or visitors

Access to an organization’s premises sometimes requires visitors to be aware of specific safety rules, the building floor plan or other measures. How do you handle that when individuals or large groups report to an entrance? This is possible with an online module that everyone can follow and complete independently. They can open this module on their own device or on devices that are made available at the entrance. This ensures a quick registration and throughput.

Tip: Not all employees, let alone visitors, are in possession of a business email address or device. With FLOWSPARKS FASTPASS you can choose alternative ways of registration, so that they still get access to e-Learning content. Think of a license plate, company name, employee number or other data. This way people can register themselves easily and quickly.

Example 2: certificates and compliance

In the case of safety training, it is not only sensible for participants themselves to repeat these regularly, but sometimes it might also be necessary to stay compliant. With online modules, it is often possible to award certificates at the end of a training course. With automatic reminders when these certificates are about to expire, you ensure that everyone always has the rules and guidelines fresh in their mind. By keeping a log there is a proof that employees have followed their training. You can also work with a reading confirmation to ensure that the participants have received and read the information.

Example 3: multiple languages or language-free

If your organization offers safety training, there is a chance that participants speak different languages. Therefore, it is useful to take this into account when offering training. Consider a platform with an option where you can easily create modules in different languages. Or take up the challenge and work on a language-free version. This can be done by explaining both desirable and undesirable situations through short animations and icons. In a follow-up exercise, participants can indicate whether a certain situation is safe or unsafe.

Tip: repetition is key in safety measures. That is why it is a good idea to put up posters on location showing safe and unsafe situations. That way, everyone is always reminded to work safely.

Example 4: make it fun!

Nothing is as boring as reading pieces of text and answering a few questions. Therefore, make mandatory training sessions fun! This can be done by varying the exercises, videos, animations or gamification. With the latter, people can earn points and thus gain access to a final test with a minimum number of points.

Did you know: FLOWSPARKS works with many different Learning Formats. These formats are didactic templates that make it possible to create varied exercises yourself. Think of interactive videos where participants must intervene, knowledge drills with multiple choice questions or assessing safe and unsafe situations using photos.
